Park View School has had a local area network in place since 1995, when the library was automated with the Follett circulation system.  A year later, the entire building was wired with one drop in every room, along with the installation of a new phone system.  The Novell network has a bandwidth of 10 MB and the T1 connection provides a 1.56 megabit speed. The building provides service to 150 Windows ’95 computers, including 2 computer labs, 9 classroom minilabs and 55 classrooms.  Plans call for the upgrading of the backbone to fiber optics and any newly acquired computers installed with  100 MB network cards.

Presently,  the network consists of three file servers:
    • Admin (for the Schoolmaster program)
    • Comm (Lotus ccMail, all teacher files, including personal directories and        gradebooks)
    • StuLab (all student personal files and the programs they use)
The servers are housed in a small room off the computer lab, which also contains the T-1 line, the router and the lab hub stack.  The servers are routinely updated every 2 years.
