Network
Infrastructure
Northwest School has a 10 BaseT Ethernet LAN. The server has a 10/100 BaseT Network Card as do all of the computers. The cabling is Category 5 Unshield Twisted Pair. The server, computers, and cabling are capable of a bandwidth of 100 Megabits, but because the hubs are 10 BaseT, the signal is reduced and the actual bandwidth is 10 Megabits.
Most of the classrooms at Northwest School have five computers. Each set of five computers is connected to an 8-Port active 10 BaseT Hub in the room. The six classrooms at the east end of the building are connected to the 16-Port active 10 BaseT Hub in the Write to Read Lab, which is also connected to the hub in the library. The nine computers in the lab are connected directly to this 16-Port hub. The classrooms at the west end of the building, as well as the office and the kindergarten room, are connected to the 16-Port active 10 BaseT Hub in the library. The computers in the library, office, Title 1 room, LD resource room, and kindergarten room are connected directly to the library. The hub in the library is connected to the server, which is also located in the library.
The four large buildings in Lincoln Elementary District 27 have wireless access to EOS (Abelink), the district's Internet provider. A router is located in the Northwest library. It connects to the tower on the roof of the building and to the hub in the library. The tower allows communication with another router at EOS.
