EdPsy490 ASA - Reflections
A comment that Chip Bruce made at our August 1999 orientation has stuck with me.  He said that his class could be used to create a project that we would like to have done on our own but didn't have the time.  I have found that to be true in more than one of my classes!  EdPsy490 has been one of those classes.
Creating guidelines for school wide portfolios is definitely something that needed to be accomplished at Northwest, but no one would take the time.  This class has not only given me the opportunity to learn the "Key Steps in Defining,  Implement and Using Portfolios," but I have been able to create the guidelines.  I plan on presenting them to the faculty at the School Improvement meeting in December.
During this semester I have also been able to look closely at my new science text.  After teaching the first chapter, I knew that changes had to be made in the assessment - such as adaptations for my LD students.  If not for this class, I would not have had the time to make the necessary changes, as well as make some additions.  I really like the idea of adding the performance based assessment.  Because I have been away from the text book for awhile, I have not been able to try out the performance assessment for the chapters.  I'm looking forward to trying it.
The Sue Project:  I loved it!  What an important and rewarding experience!  Something that I helped to create is being used by MANY others.... wow!  Because of my contact with the Project, my students are getting a great experience too.  It is a great feeling seeing the looks on my students faces as they work through the inquiry lessons.
EdPsy 490 has given me knowledge to improve the learning process for my students.  I now feel that I can critically look at all of my current assessments and make improvements.
