Here are my
thoughts on reorganizing our class discussion of evaluation.
FORMAL EVALUATION is structured and explicit.
-
Use of quantitative measures to find out effectiveness
of technology
-
Pre-Post test of swimming skills(testing
must follow some standard)
-
Track student performance over time with assessment
(how?
- testing must follow some standard)
-
Context collection of student products to determine
worth of program (how? - testing must follow some
standard)
-
Using performance reviews to determine worth
of staff (use a criteria or standard)
INFORMAL EVALUATION is less structured, subjective
and often based on quick decisions.
-
Scaled questionnaire to
determine teacher experience/comfort level (removed from FORMAL because
subjectiveness)
-
Checklist from an interview
(removed from FORMAL because subjectiveness)
-
Open-ended interview to
determine self appraisal os skills
-
Survey and open ended
questions about class value
-
Survey to show percentage of equipment use to
determine if technology is being used
-
Short form surveys between student and teacher
to evaluate class worth
-
Observation - short discussions
SUMMATIVE EVALUATION is final and is used to
determine the future (or fate) of the program.
-
Monthly feedback about usage of technology to
make a final judgment of worth
-
Looking back to determine worth of a program
with students skills
-
End of the year judgment (Is
this for the teacher or the student? - teachers may use the info to refine
a program)
-
Survey to determine the
value of a unit - at the end of the unit
-
FINAL review of overall picture and make changes
(As
a class we questioned this point. Final and overall picture put it
into summative, but make changes tends to bring to mind formative.
The wording should be clarified.)
-
Student view Point through
ISIS (Again how is this being used?
Is it for the teacher to refine a program or for the future of the teacher's
position?)
FORMATIVE EVALUATION is used to improve and
refine a program. The evaluation occurs throughout the program and
may be repeated.
-
Monthly online evaluation form to modify support
roles
-
On-going feedback using a checklist
-
In progress suggestions judgments on value of
course
-
Trend analysis instruction modification
-
Remediation - documentation, support, etc.
-
Teacher View point through ISIS (Again
how is this being used? Is it for the teacher to refine a program
or for the future of the teacher's position?)
ACTIVITY the tool or activity used for
the evaluation.

PURPOSE or goal is to provide answers to relevant
questions

USE or role of the evaluation. How will
the results be used?
-
Determine future plans
-
Program evolution

Align curriculum to state goals
-
Align to local curriculum
