Sometimes quilters create pictures in their quilts. Look at the examples on this page. You can create "quilted animals" from paper.
Theses quilts all have perimeters and areas.
Remember:
A perimeter is the
distance around the outside of your figure.
An area is the total
number of squares in your figure.
Look at the quilt block on
this page. It is a picture of Matilda, Ellen's Goose.
Her perimeter is 34
squares. Her area is 29 squares.
Make your own quilted animal!
1. Print the two 64
square grids or get some large square graph paper.
2. Create an animal with a
perimeter of 20 squares. Color it!
3. Create an animal with an
area of 12 squares. Color it!
4. Create a third animal.
Color it!
What is the perimeter of your
animal?
What is the area of the animal?
The more quilted animals you make, the larger your zoo! Be sure to label your quilted animals with their areas and perimeters!
Try making the animals from
each of the American Quilt books!
