Java Applet is a program of Java that can be included in HTML documents in a similar way that an image is included. When using a Java compatible browser to view a page that contains a Java Applet, the code is transferred to system and executed by the browser.
What is the Potential Educational Use?
Java Applets is demonstration software that has many features including sound and animation.
What is the cost?
Yahoo has hundreds of Java Applets that can be used for no cost. More advanced Java related products can be purchased by contacting Sun Microsystems.

Java Applets contains a cross platform feature; Any platform that supports Java can run Java Applets. In order to use Java Applets one must have an Internet browser.

HyperStudio is a multimedia writing tool with a student centered approach. HyperStudio is a wonderful communication tool that can be used for presentations at home, school, or work. The multimedia system offers the capability to bring together text, sound, graphics, and animation.
What is the Potential Educational Use?
HyperStudio provides communication in visual form bringing together text, sound, graphics, and animation. HyperStudio has hundreds of possible educational uses. In language arts, students could create an autobiography presentation which would include personal information spiced up with sound, animation, and graphics. In math, students could create educational math games. In history, students could create a multimedia presentation on a period of time like World War II. Students could include facts about the time period along with appropriate sound and animation.

RealNetworks produces RealAudio/RealVideo. RealAudio/RealVideo can be downloaded from the RealNetworks Web page.
What does it do?
RealAudio/RealVideo allows audio and video files to be transferred to a web browser by streaming. This simply means no time is wasted as the files are being transferred, unlike downloading where transferring of audio or videos can be extremely time consuming.
What is the Potential Educational Use?
RealAudio/RealVideo allows students to view or listen to documents. Students can listen to symphonies or watch broadcasts of space shuttles from anywhere in the world. RealAudio/RealVideo can be accessed by clicking on a link in a Web site.

RealAudio/RealVideo is free. One can simply visit the RealNetworks home page to download RealAudio/RealVideo. This will allow one to use the RealAudio/RealVideo player for a 60 day trial period.
