My vision for 2020 regarding the use of technology
in education is very similar to they way technology is used in higher education
today. In higher education institutions around the country, increasingly
technology and the use of technology is playing a greater role in the design,
development, and implementation of educational programs. A very local
example of this is the "HRD Global" program, which is an on-line HRE masters
program available to students all around the world. This program
provides the opportunity to obtain an HRE masters degree, regardless of
geographic location, to students all around the world. This program
also allows for greater cultural awareness among the students participating
in the program. As the HRE staff and students interact and communicate
with one another via email and the internet, they are not only exchanging
words, ideas, etc., but also cultural information and knowledge among one
another. This online HRE masters program also provides students,
who have time constraints such as full-time jobs, family responsibilities,
to take a reasonable and achievable class load of 1 class per semester.
These are only a few of the many benefits and positive things related to
on-line programs, such as "Global HRD."
In the next twenty years or so, I would except to
see many other educational institutions replicating exemplary educational
programs that integrate technology, such as the "Global HRD" on-line program.
I have only mentioned a few of the great things that come out of using
technology in education. However, there are also many hazards and
dangers that come with the use of technology in education as well.
Warning: ONLY CAREFUL AND THOUGHTFUL PLANNING OF THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY
IN EDUCATION WILL GUARANTEE APPROPRIATE USES OF TECHNOLOGY AS WELL AS POSITIVE
RESULTS ASSOCIATED WITH THAT PARTICULAR USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN EDUCATION!
