Common
Cents
A Pooled Data Analysis Project
Chrisman-Scottland Summer School
The goal is to collect and share data with other classes. Ever think about how many pennies are in circulation? How long they last? This will be a simple project, which can be expanded, or limited to fit your classroom. Classes will organize and count coins by date. The data will be shared and each class gets experience graphing, looking at variability and central tendencies. Coins interest everyone and can be used to teach everything from probability to geography. Common Cents is a project you can do with a set of pennies or really any coin. The reference materials included on this site are for pennies but don't let that stop you from using other coins if you want.
