The following airline safety grades are based upon the number of fatal accidents per million flights that the airline has flown since 1970. The grading scale is as follows: A=0.00-0.99, B=1.00-1.99, C=2.00-2.99, D=3.00-3.99, F=4.00+

For each airline, the number of fatal events was divided by the estimated number of flights to determine the estimated fatal event rate. The estimated total flights for each airline are for the period 1970 to 1997.

We caution that these statistics cannot be relied upon to provide an accurate view of the general safety of the airline.
