Thinking Behind
"Can we grow on like this?" - a significant question to ask ourselves as the world population continues to grow exponentially.

This Web Page is a modest attempt to create a meaningful  learning resource for students to examine critically the impact of the growing numbers on our quality of life.

Instructional Objectives

1.    Content
Students inquire into some key concepts in population studies such as "natural increase", "exponential growth" and "sustainable development" and   examine population issues from different view points. Opportunity is also given to students to determine their own position in the debate.
2.    Research Cycle
Students master  the content independently and learn how to conduct a systematic investigation on the issue using  a variety of resource materials and tools.
3.    Collaboration
Students learn to work collaboratively in small groups. Suggestions on group role assigments are provided. Various opportunities are also created to encourage students   to share their views and reflect on their own learning.
4.    Visualization
Students are encouraged  to organise and  analyse information through concept mapping using a simple modelling tool, Model - IT software, if they have access to it. There are other similar concept mapping tools available commercially.
