Zan's Curriculum using SMART Board

I will be using the SMART Board for different kinds of instruction.  I will use it for curriculum where the students will participate in whole group situations.  I will use it for assessment where I will model for the students the use of rubrics and checklists.  I will use it as a showcase for the students' work when parents and visitors are in the school.  Please click on each of the sections to see more detailed plans.

Curriculum
I will be using the SMART Board for whole group instruction.  I will be modeling the use of the internet, Word, PowerPoint, and email.  I will also be modeling the use of email and saving files to disk.
Each of the students at my school are expected to complete training in certain technology skills.  These will be much easier to explain and show to my students with the SMART Board.  The students also have a disk that they keep as an electronic portfolio. They will be saving a sample of their work each month. It is necessary for me to review how to save files to this disk each year. The students also email their teachers examples of their work for their classroom portfolios.  That needs to be reviewed each month, also.
For more information on my curriculum, please check my learning center pages.

Assessment
I will incorporate the SMART Board in my student assessment each week.  The students have the rubrics and checklists on their disks. I will model how to fill them out and, most importantly, how to plan on making improvements in their learning.  These rubrics and checklists are found at this link. The technology rubric will be created as a group project during the month of September.  All the students need to feel ownership of this rubric. The SMART Board will be a great way to this as a group!

Showcase
The students need to feel proud of their work.  One great way to do this is to share it others.  My students do this by publishing their work each Friday.  They speak on stage to the rest of the group in a real life presentation.  The SMART Board will again be a great way for them to share their electronic work along with any other projects they may wish to share.  To see how I have planned my daily schedule, please go to this link. The students can also share their work at Open House and during parent conferences using the SMART Board.

Standards
The Illinois State Standards that I use for each month are found at this site. Although the SMART Board will not help me specifically in presenting these standards.  It will certainly be evident in each day's instruction and active learning activities.  I could use the state site to show the students the standards, but fortunately the district has made posters showing them that are already hanging in my classroom.
